Project 1: Shooting Angles
On this first assignment, the focus of this project was to try out different angles. I found this assignment difficult yet fun to experiment with. It was also challenging to get my subject to sit still, and I was still learning about the artifically lighting and how to shoot with bright lights. I think this was a great introduction, and I think figuring out different angles helped me with other projects, even if it wasn’t their focus.
Project 2: Focus and Blur
Project 2 was one of my favorites as I learned how to use different tools on my iPhone to affect my shutter speed. I think creating the blur effect has been beneficial to me, and I think I created quite an aesthetic picture with my boots, which represented me. I learned about long versus short exposures and low and high exposures. The lower the exposure, the darker the boots were, which gave them a rustic, farm look.
Project 3: Decisive Moment
The decisive moments project was all about capturing the split second of random people's lives. It was capturing a story in just a split second. Observing people from a different perspective, but knowing nothing about them. I captured young adults having a conversation while admiring the sunset. A couple on a walk, and someone for a jog. Their stories are unknown, but a moment of their time was captured.
Project 4: Framing
The concept of framing is unique and complex. I think this is because it is all in how the photographer sees it. I found the S-curve to be most difficult, but also the most unique; it had me looking at bends in the road and the way the trees twisted. I think this project really pushed me to be more creative, and it made it fun to try new things, explore different angles, and experiment.
Project 5: Lighting
Lighting is a difficult yet necessary aspect of photography. This is a project I worked hard on and did lots of research on, using artificial lights to get the beams, combined with movement, to create this image. You also had to make sure that the light was isolated and not interfering with the artificial lighting. Natural lighting is the best to shoot in, but you always have to be cautious of shadows.
Project 6: Portrait and Night
The focus of project 6 was to explore differences in capturing night images and in capturing direct portrait images. These are two different concepts that both heavily rely on lighting and exposure. Night is hard to capture the colors and features of faces without some form of lighting, as in the image above. Portrait was a challenge because all of the focus is on the subject; it was also important to pose, which I struggled with.
Project 7: Image to Pixel
Project 7 was focusing on the details. Whether it was the photoshopping of different images onto another, or HDR, like this image of the flower. It all comes down to the lighting, exposure, and making sure it's consistent throughout your editing, especially when photoshopping. I found it difficult to maintain good lighting in order to create consistency in my photos. This project allowed me to experiment with different types of digital photography, including editing, panoramic images, and creative photo manipulation. I learned how technology can enhance or completely transform a photo while still creating an interesting final image. This assignment encouraged me to be more creative and explore new editing techniques.
